Our biggest concern here at Crawford is to make sure that you, the customer, is not being misled by other manufacturers or retailers. There are many things that you should look out for when shopping for furniture. Pricing, financing and small print are just some areas where you may be misled. As we proceed, Crawford will explain what is meant by this. Hopefully after reading the following, you will be much better prepared to shop for your next furniture purchase.

The Crawford name is associated with producing the finest in American-made solid wood furniture at an outstanding value. All of our furniture is produced in our plant located in Jamestown, New York. Crawford selects the finest Black Cherry, Maple, Ash and Oak lumber for use in our furniture. Because no two trees are alike, each piece of Crawford furniture will be unique and distinctive. These species have many beautiful characteristics such as color variations, ribbon grain, mineral streaks, pin knots, cathedral grain, and pitch pockets. These inherent characteristics add to the natural beauty and unique character of each piece of Crawford furniture. We are proud of our fine furniture that is built to last a lifetime.

What to look for when buying furniture:

  1. When you are in the market for wooden furniture, the first thing you should look for or listen for is the term solid wood. If someone tells you this piece is made of solid oak it had better be. Sometimes the term all wood is used which is not the same as solid wood. For instance, particleboard is considered wood. At Crawford Furniture you can be assured that when we say a piece is solid oak we mean it. We can even provide details about the wood species manufacturing process.
  2. Inquire about the manufacturing techniques and finishing process.

How some manufacturers and retailers mislead you:

  1. Sometimes you are told or may read in an ad that a product consists of solids, which usually means it’s a variation of different woods or veneers. By using the term solids, companies can use just about anything they want. What we mean by this is the piece of furniture you think consists of mostly oak may consist of hardly any oak. It could be made up of mostly veneers, other woods and even particle or flake board. Certain woods and veneers will split, crack or have the finish rise on you within five to ten years. At Crawford Furniture when we say oak we mean oak!
  2. Another big thing to be aware of is the word finish. You will see this normally in small print when reading an ad or when reading a brief description of a product. For instance, sometimes you may see a dresser or chest described as “sturdy six drawer chest made of oak solids with a beautiful natural oak finish.” As in the previous instance you see the word Oak a few times but you can not be certain that that product consists of solid oak through and through. You may even see a product described as “beautiful eight drawer dresser made of wood solids in a natural oak finish.” In this case you have no idea what you are really buying. Crawford wants to take every step in making sure you, the customer, will not be fooled in any way.
  3. Some other questions you may want to ask when making your next wooden furniture purchase may include asking about construction techniques, the finishing process, product warranty or even the origin of the furniture manufacturer itself. At Crawford Furniture we can explain all of this to you without a problem.

In Conclusion:
We here at Crawford Furniture just want to make sure that you, the customer, is fully aware and prepared when you decide to make your next furniture purchase. Hopefully these tips we have provided will help you when it comes to your next selection. Buying the right furniture for you is not an easy decision. Crawford Furniture is built to last a lifetime at a reasonable price. There, we just made your decision a lot easier.

President's Message:

I would like to express a personal message with respect to Crawford Furniture of Jamestown. We are now the only solid wood furniture factory still in existence in Jamestown, N.Y. At one time, Jamestown had over 35 furniture factories and its own Furniture Market. We at Crawford proudly have remained in business since 1883. As an ESOP company our employees own 48% of the company and all stand 100% behind our “American Made” product. Please note that the lumber for our product is purchased within 150 miles of the factory. Due to ever changing weather patterns, it is considered the best lumber in the country due to the stress it endures year in and year out. For over 120 years Crawford has brought you, the public, some of the finest furniture available and with your help I assure you that the jobs and the company will remain in Jamestown ready to serve you for years to come.

Thanks,

Michael R. Cappa, President / CEO
